Interior and DIY guru Laura de Barra, author of the new book Decor Galore, says it’s about making sure you clean your detergent drawer.
Cork woman Laura, who shares many useful home tips on her Instagram and TikTok shared a video on how to safely clean your washing machine to make your washing machine look brand new.
She said in her TikTok video, “You might be wondering why your dispenser drawer is hanging on the fabric softener and not using the full amount you put in each wash.”
She then shows how she pulls the drawer out of her own washing machine, urging people to be careful because the old fabric softener may spill out.
Laura added, “It can get pretty dirty. There will be mold here quite often and you might find powder.
“It can actually build up into a blockage, so you need to make sure you keep it free of mold and powder.”

The DIY star then explained that the drawers are divided into different sections for different stages of the laundry cycle.
Laura then pointed out that the little holes on the underside of where the drawer goes are actually the spray holes.
She said: “The machine will select the spray holes from which the water must pour to reach the required section of the drawer.
“It adds water to it and then runs down its back.
“It is important to note here that if you find that a section is not completely picked up during a cycle, it probably means that the spray holes above that section are clogged.”
CLEANING TIPS
To clean the area, Laura first urged people to lay a rag or towel along the base to make sure no dirt or other lump ends up in the hole that brings water into the base. machine drum.

She said: “These are fabulous because they’re small enough to fit in spray holes like this, as well as those in your dishwasher and the drain hole on the back of your refrigerator.

Laura added: “If your machine is really bad and moldy, an old toothbrush looks wonderful here.”
She then recommends using a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water to clean up the grime, adding that it “will remove any mold and unclog any lime-filled spray holes.”
