Soda crystals can be used in your washing machine for the benefit of clothes and machine. These helpful crystals will lift stains on clothes, soften water, and rid the machine of lime and bad smells… but how much should you put on? And do the soda crystals go in the drum or the drawer?

These are little scoops of sodium carbonate decahydrate and Dri-Pak is the only manufacturer of soda ash in the UK.
According to Dri-Pak, crystals can work in the machine in a number of ways.

If you want to use soda crystals to remove stubborn stains, all you need to do is add a tablespoon of soda crystals to your regular detergent.
You can also prepare a strong solution of soda crystals and lukewarm water and soak the garment for an hour before washing it normally.
The strength of the solution required depends on the application. As a guide, Dri-Pak recommends the following:
- Sweet – One tablespoon (20 g) per pint (500 ml) of water
- Regular – Half a cup (100 g) to a pint (500 ml) of water
- Strong – One cup (200 g) to one quart (500 ml) of water
This trick will not only remove stains, but it will also tackle stubborn odors on your laundry items.
The Dri-Pak site adds, “If you have particularly stubborn stains, dirty work clothes or washable diapers to remove, you may want to consider using Soda Crystals Laundry Boost which has added oxygenated bleach.
“You can also use liquid soda crystals on delicate areas, such as dirty collars, wrists and armpits!â€
